This summer Presser Performing Arts Center will offer an exciting arts camp for children 4th through 12th grades (and graduated 2008 seniors). Music Man, Jr. directed by Deborah Baldwin from PACE (Performing Arts in Children's Education) from Columbia, MO. Summer Camp is also sponsored by Mexico Area Community Theatre and the City of Mexico.
Considered the quintessential American musical, Music Man harks back to the early 1900's with a story of love beating every trick a flim flam man can try. If you haven't heard the score, you'll love "Seventy-Six Trombones", "Lida Rose", "Pick a Little Talk a Little" made famous by this beloved musical.
Presser arts camp runs 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from July 7 through 11th and July 14 through 18th at Presser Hall. Dress rehearsal is July 19th at l0:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a performance that evening and also a matinee on July 20th. Students must be available to rehearse at every class. Campers will bring a snack and lunch. The cast will spend a major portion of their day rehearsing the musical by learning the songs, dances and script as well as study acting and character development. There will even be time for games!
In addition, Timothy Baldwin (Performing Arts in Children's Education) will teach a technical theater class for students grade 7 through 12th at the same time. Students will build the show's set, focus stage lights, build stage properties and serve as the technical crew for the show.
