RockFEST BATTTLE OF THE BANDS

1. All entry packets must be received by July 23,
2008.
8 groups will be selected by a listening group of
judges, sponsors and
RockFEST
associates to play on August 16 2008 as part of the
live competition. The selected groups will be
notified by telephone or email.
2. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. Entry
packets must be accompanied by a digital band
photo, delivered as jpg on disk or via email, and
an audio file (mp3, CD or cassette) of at least 2
songs to that are complete. Video ( or DVD) of a
performance is highly encouraged, but not required,
and may substitute for audio file.
3. Each band that competes at the Battle of the
Bands on August 16 will
play 2 songs
on stage, for a total performance time of
no longer than 10 minutes.
4.
* Open to any ROCK genre, but material must be
suitable for general audiences.
Bands
will be disqualified if using any profanity "bad"
language, violent content, or explicit sexual
references.
ABSOLUTLEY NO obscene or offensive lyrics will be
allowed.
The B.O.B. Festival will not accept bands with
songs that contain hate, homophobia, or racist
materials. Rude and indecent gestures while
performing are prohibited.
5. A stage crew will be on hand to assist each band
in setting up and sound check. It is the band’s
responsibility to set gear and be ready to perform
within the allotted time.
6. Stage management has final say on all activities
on stage. Any band going over the 10 minute limit,
or disregarding event management’s direction about
anything, including safety and time, may be
disqualified or powered off.
7. A panel of qualified judges will select 1st
place for the Grand Prize
Winner.
8. If your group is chosen to compete in the Battle
of the Bands, you must be available on August 16,
for draw order (drawing the order of performance
for the evening’s competition, sound check and run
through at 1:30. You must check in for the evenings
competition no later than 6:00 pm.
9. All bands are required to send one member to a
pre-meeting before the event.
11. Battle of the Bands is open to amateurs only.
For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is
somebody without a major-label recording contract
who makes less than half their annual income by
performing.
12. Entries must be completed in English, but the
band may perform their songs in any language.
13. The
RockFEST
is not responsible for any damage or theft of your
musical equipment during the Battle of the Bands.
Watch it closely.
14. Each band will be assigned a dressing room
backstage. Noone will be allowed backstage except
band members listed on the registration form, ID
lanyards will be distributed upon arrival and must
be worn to gain entry to the backstage area.

Submitting press kits or bios and CDs or tapes are
welcomed along with the mandatory demo CD, as part
of your Registration Package. These materials will
be used for media advertising purposes, and
marketing purposes Materials will not be returned.

No exceptions.
* RockFEST will supply sound equipment. Bands will
supply all other instruments.
* Bands must perform by self, i.e. no backup band
or recorded music is allowed.
* Bands selected to compete will play one 10 minute
set.
* Each band will be allowed up to 5 minutes total
for set up, performance, and tear down (for
example: 5 minutes to set up, 10 minutes
performance and 5 minutes tear down)
*There will be a timer with minute cards to inform
you of time. Judges will also be keeping track for
their records. Points will be deducted for playing
over the time limit. (3 pts./1 min)
* Bands selected to compete agree to check in at
the site by 1:30 on August 16 to draw for
competition order and to remain at the site for the
duration of the Run Thru and sound check or until
released by the Technical Team.
* Bands selected to compete will be notified by
email or phone and will be included in the event
promotion after that date.
* All bands agree to have their name, voice and/or
likenesses used in any advertising or broadcasting
material related to this contest without any
compensation or rights to royalties for such use.
* Bands in violation of eligibility requirement
will be disqualified and any prize monies will be
forfeited.
* RockFEST is not responsible for damage or theft
of personal property.
* Abuse or theft of the provided equipment will
result in immediate disqualification and reparation
to the equipment provider.
Judging: A committee will screen approximately 6-10
minutes of each entry and select 8 bands to perform
at the RockFEST at the Presser Performing Arts
center on Saturday August 16, 2008 at 7:00pm.
Winners will be notified by phone and email.
** A panel of judges will score musicians using a
point system. Each act will be judged on the
following criteria:
· Stage Presence – appearance, appropriate material
· Time – use of time (10 minutes)
· Originality – quality of original material and/or
interpretation of cover tunes
· Musical Ability – vocal/instrumental skill,
intonation, complexity of music
· Audience Approval – applause, overall enthusiasm
Grand Prize: $1000 cash
* Each member must play at least one instrument or
provide vocals – no karoke or sound tracks allowed.
* Basic backline gear will be provided – bass and
guitar amps, and sound system. Bands are
responsible for bringing their own instruments and
effects.
* Bands must have at least three members.
* Each member must provide accurate contact
information
* All rock genre of music is eligible – rock, punk,
world, R&B, hip-hop, etc.
* Any original submissions in violation of
copyright not owned by the artist submitting them
will be eliminated.
* Contest is open June 1 thru July 23, 2008.
Finalists will be announced shortly after the
closing.
* Bands will be judged by a panel of music
professionals for overall sound, entertainment
value, originality, overall performance and crowd
reaction. Judges decision is final.
* Show organizer will brief each band for procedure
and agenda. All bands must arrive and check in by
1:30 August 16 for 6:00 pm show call.
* Presser Performing Arts Center has it’s own
regulations for performers on their stage. Failure
to comply with all regulations will result in
automatic elimination.
* Sponsors shall not be held responsible in any
manor for loss, injury or damage incurred at said
show.
* Additions or deletions to the rules may be made
at the discretion of the contest sponsor and may be
enacted at any time.
* All finalists agree to be video taped for
promotional purposes and agree to gratis use of
their performances and recording for the purpose of
future marketing.
Eligibility – Open only to performers that are
Missouri residents. Drivers License or ID will
serve as proof. Prizes and dates may be subject to
change. Students must have permission from a parent
or guardian to enter.
