Current Workshops
Create 4 - 12” X 12” paintings using GOLDEN fluid acrylic paints. You may use a larger panel or canvas if you wish to bring it from your private stash. Please let the instructor know ahead of time so they can prepare your correct sized template.
Adopt the loose free strokes of “Contemporary Impressionism.”
We will study “Underpainting”, Value intensity, Outlining, and Bold color with lots of encouragement!
Tuition = $200 this includes ALL your materials and instruction. If by chance you use all your supplies before the end of the 4 sessions, you will be responsible for replenishing your supplies for the remainder of classes. We have calculated the coursework and estimate plenty of supply for the lessons. However, some students will be excited and want to do MORE!! This workshop style setting is designed to move quickly. Only 9 colors will be used.
Instructor Lois Brace has studied Fine Art for decades and taken many classes in educational settings and seminars. She will be bringing her own unique style to the course with oversized brush strokes. She is an artist. If you like impressionism, you will enjoy the contemporary impressionism this course offers. Layers of color upon color give the depth and intensity similar to how the “old” impressionists painted. The Impressionist painters used layers of colours, leaving gaps in the top layers to reveal the colours underneath. It’s a quick method using large brush strokes of color without too much blending. Drying time is fast due to the thin paints of Golden Fluid Acrylics.

Self-taught artist and entrepreneur Joleen Emery has been influencing an audience of 100,000+ people with her unique approach to using repurposed materials for her art at Big Raven Farm, a bed & breakfast and retreat center in southeastern Minnesota. Joleen will lead attendees through a series of fun art projects using easy-to-find reclaimed materials. Prior to the workshop, attendees will be provided with an inexpensive list of materials to bring (and suggestions as to where to find them).

While Joleen Emery leads yoga and crafting retreats at Big Raven Farm, Darin Warling has been serving well-crafted, hand-made comfort foods to their attendees. Trained as a chef while living in Thailand, his focus is now on creating flavorful dishes for visitors and guests using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Darin will lead attendees through a series of surprisingly easy hand-made Italian dishes, including homemade pasta, sauce, salad, focaccia, and plum cake for dessert. We will then dine together with Joleen's workshop attendees to close her show!
